What did we learn this week in college football?

We saw some pretenders emerge.

  • University of Miami — I liked how they had played so far but their coach literally demonstrated that meritocracy isn’t in place. More on that in a minute.
  • Notre Dame — we can officially stick a fork in their 2023 title aspirations. They got soundly beat by Louisville, who remains unbeaten.
  • University of Texas — I won’t say they’re out of it but tough loss, not as bad as Miami but we’ll get to that one in a moment.

Who is living on the edge?

  • USC — they sleepwalked through this game at home versus Arizona. They were fortunate to win…which was another close call for the Trojans. They have the talent, but do they have the focus, rigor, and luck to make it through?

Who stepped up?

  • Georgia & Oklahoma

Coach Stupidity?

I speak about Miami’s Mario Cristobal and UofTexas’s Steve Sarkisian on the podcast. But for this piece I will focus on Critobal’s moronic clock management. It’s safe to say the meritocracy isn’t followed by the institute of higher education in Miami.

Week 7 College Fantasy Football Free Agent (Waiver Wire) Targets

  • QB Brady Cook - (Mizzu; 37% owned) — Cook remains on this list because he keeps ballin out (4th straight 300+ yard passing game), is now a top 15 overall performer this year, and remains available in most leagues.
  • QB Jack Plummer (Lou; 29% owned) — Louisville will get a lot of publicity this week after beating Notre Dame and remaining unbeaten, and Plummer deserves some credit. He’s close to sneaking into the top 20 (currently 23rd) and is worth a look if you need a QB.
  • RB Isaiah Ifanse (CAL; 14% owned) Ifanse has continued to put up big numbers in obscurity at the University of California. He’s a top 20 performer owned by less than 85% of all leagues.
  • RB Bhayshul Tuten (Va Tech; 19% owned) — Tuten had a quiet game but still had double digits and is a top 20 fantasy scorer at the RB position. It’s insane that he his ownership dropped 1% week over week in ownership. He may not be sexy or on national TV games but he’s a grinder worthy of not just a roster spot but a spot in your starting lineup.
  • WR Lewis Bond (BC; 19% owned) — Bond, a Sophomore, has upped his production each week, and remains a consistent scorer (he’s scored in 4 of 5 games this year, 5 total TD’s), he’s the primary receiving threats for the BC Eagles. But he’s available in virtually every league out there.
  • WR Andrew Amstrong (Arkansas; 16% owned). Armstrong has developed into the Razorbacks primary receiver. He’s the 22nd overall receiver and available in 84% of leagues.
  • TE Jack Velling (Oregon State; 7% owned) — Velling isn’t a target hog but he’s a preferred option in the red zone with 5 TD’s (on 13 total receptions). He’s a top 15 option in college fantasy-starved tight-end options.
